Depression and bipolar disorder
Mood disorders — including Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Bipolar Disorder, and mood conditions tied to hormonal changes in women — affect how you feel, think, and function day to day. At Heartpoint, we provide evidence-based psychiatric care that also considers the whole person: your physical health, hormonal biology, lifestyle, sleep, nutrition, and stress levels, alongside your mental health symptoms.
We have particular expertise in mood disorders in women, including those driven by hormonal changes across the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, postpartum, and perimenopause/menopause, and Christa Robertson is certified in perinatal mental health treatment.
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) Persistent sadness, loss of interest or pleasure, low energy, changes in sleep or appetite, and difficulty concentrating are common symptoms of depression.
Bipolar Disorder Bipolar I and Bipolar II involve shifts between depressive episodes and periods of elevated mood, energy, or irritability (mania or hypomania). Accurate diagnosis is essential, since bipolar disorder is treated differently than depression alone.
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) A severe, cyclical mood condition tied to the menstrual cycle, involving depression, irritability, or anxiety in the days to weeks before menstruation. PMDD is often under-recognized and misdiagnosed as general depression or anxiety.
